Chapter 05: Status Window

 

This tablet must be something that his father had gotten from the Dark Outsiders.

Then, it must be something valuable enough that his father had entrusted it to him, the only survivor of Terra.

Arik knows his father.

He is a meticulous planner and strategize the war effort. Since that is the case, how could his father not leave anything about this tablet to him?

Because Arik understood the implication of Calypso speaking about a race that he never knew before.

A race that is not recorded in any of the records of the stars of the Academy.

It means this Nervian race is not the knowledge of Terra but the knowledge contained in the tablet.

‘An information form tablet?’

There is thing like that. Information form which could be embedded into stuff and could be revealed later on.

While they did not master magic, Terra had a very advanced technological advancement in all category of life.

Embedding information into a tablet is not something that is hard.

But usually for Terran, they would not embed it into something that is easily destroyed unless they are sending a military missive or sensitive information that requires destruction afterwards.

Arik thinks again.

‘My father would not leave me blind. He must have told me something or give me something to explain the tablet to me. It would not make sense then.’ Though there is another possibility

‘Think. Think’ he mutters to himself. He taps his finger to the surface of the sofa and then a few second later he stopped

‘Did my father also not know what this is? It is magical after all. I would not be surprised’

Magic is thought to be superstition of the past. Until it was discovered by his father during the fight against the Dark Outsiders.

But the people of Terra could not use magic like the Dark Outsiders

 Then he stopped pacing and his eyes widened like he had understood something

‘the spaceships’

There are two spaceships that accompany him when he escapes his galaxy system.

He was not able to check the other two spaceships because he was put in suspended animation the moment his spaceship closed.

Now the urgency in his heart to seek the other spaceship become even more urgent.

He stands there and calms himself down and then after he is ready he thought to himself

‘Send me the information on the system’

[Affirmative]

And Arik mind is suddenly bombarded with information.

It took him around five minutes to sort out all the information and the he opens his eyes.

‘This is incredible’ Right now he had understood what is the system.

‘Appear’ he thought to himself and then his status window appears.

This is his status window. It seems that Calypso had created a system. Or it might be more accurate to say that the tablet created this system.

Calypso no matter how advanced it is, did not have such functions before

In a way, it is like the nano bio status viewer in his world.

Nanotechnology is one of the common technology in his world.

They could monitor their status with that and could easily know if they are infected with viruses or come down with a sickness.

But while that nano bio status window is quite comprehensive, it is not like the current status window.

When the information streams in his mind just then, he immediately understood what this system is.

It is magical and since Calypso had integrated it with normal status viewer, it might induce such a change that is both logical but instead something that is out of logic, something magical and hard to explain

The status window is not hard to understand.

He presses his hand on the merit points status tab and then an explanation appears in front of him in the form of a pop up window

[Merit Point]

It is gained by doing good thing and heroic thing. The merit point could be used to exchange with the system store. The system store possesses many great abilities that is transformed from the merit point energy

That is the explanation he gets.

‘Can magic do all of this?” Arik knows if he survives tonight, he needs to learn a bit about magic.

There is still many question in his mind. But right now what is important to him is to quickly find a way to survive in this new world

Even though, all of this doesn’t seem to make sense he did not have time to hesitate.

He did not even make any attempt to try to rationalize all of this.

That could be done for later. Right now, it seems that it could benefit him and he needs all the benefit he could get.

He is now injured.

Even though the injury is not that severe, it still hinders him.

And he is at a place he does not know, in a world he is not familiar with, in a planet that is not even in his galaxy.

There is also the matter of his spaceship.

From the information that he got, this world had a few run in with unidentified flying object in the past

Even though, they never did manage to gain any considerable intel, they did recover something from the crash of this particular alien civilization.

Arik believe that the people of this world would be very interested in him.

Whether that interest is in his good interest, Arik doesn’t know.

But from what little information that he got from Calypso, humans don’t seem peaceful at all.

Instead, their history has always been filled with blood and war.

He looks at his system.

He did not feel unfamiliar with it considering that his bio clock and his bio status was also represented in a data format like this when he is still in his planet.

 ‘I need to check the system store’ he mutters to himself.

He is still on the loft of that barn but he had stopped walking around and instead, he stands there looking at his status window.

He then tries to see his status window and look at anything that could be categorized as a system sore.

But he did not see anything on his status window

‘Maybe, it is like Calypso mind connection?’ he thought to himself.

The moment he thinks of this he quickly tries it out

He just thought in his mind that he wanted to see the system store and suddenly another notification popped out and appears in front of his face.

Arik was shocked at the sudden appearance of this another status window and he nearly double back in shock.

 ‘Whoa’ he said to himself.

He marvels at this. It reminded him of the VR system where he used to buy things from the mall.

He shakes his head

‘Focus, Arik’ he thought to himself.

Then he looks at the system store. With one glance he could see that there are many things that are sold inside the system store.

And most of this is something that goes beyond his logic.

There are weapons, armor, mystical items, and even some elixir and pill.

Each of these thing might not feel that powerful considering that even in the past, he could buy most of these things in the virtual mall

But what is shocking is that the weapons on the system store is not normal weapons. It is the same for the armor, and the mystical items.

There is even a ring that could amplify energy, whatever that means.

Most of these is something that Arik doesn’t recognize.

‘Magical stuff’ he thought to himself.

But that is not the only shocking things.

If the only things that the system store sell is these things, Arik would not be that shocked. At most he would be impressed but would not be as surprised.

But the shocking thing about the system store is that it also sold talent. Now, this borders on magical.

Talents are intangible.

Of course, there are methods to improve it like nano technology implant but there is also a limit unless one decided to do gene modification but doing so sometimes creates more problem.

The DNA of a Terran is very complicated in that you could not just mix and match and hope for the best.

You fix one thing; you might affect another.

But this effect is hard to detect so it wasn’t until it is too late that you know you were affected negatively by DNA modification.

But this system store is selling talents and abilities.

And as Arik check the description, the system said that you would immediately learn the talent.

It is a lot like transferal of knowledge.

The reason why Arik is so smart for his own age is because his father had transferred knowledge and experience into his mind so that he could survive in another planet and not being defenseless.

Of course, in the end, the experience is not his own but he had a lot of practical knowledge in his mind that he could easily remember.

His brain ability and the synchronicity between the memories that he took is very important.

That is what shock him.

That he could get abilities from the system store and some ability look so powerful that even Arik had a hard time believing that such ability existed.

‘What is this? A metahuman system?’ he thought to himself.
